Mediterranean Coastal Style
A Mediterranean home has an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living. Maximising natural light and views of the outdoors. Often there are arched windows and doors to covered patios and arched casings repeated inside as well. Exposed beams, natural stone walls and large open fireplaces, worn tile or darker stained hardwood floors. Airy, breezy interior spaces with white or colour washed walls contrast the dark floors and beams. Lighting is likely ornate or dramatic with historical reference to the time of gas lit fixtures and flickering flames.
Key Elements of Mediterranean Coastal Style:
- Historic European Architecture...think Italian, Spanish, Moroccan and Greek. Red roof tiles, stucco walls, arches and Palladio-inspired enclosed outdoor spaces;
- A colour palette of neutral backgrounds highlight rich turquoise or bright blues, red terracotta crockery against bright white washed walls and covered patios with planters and iron work railings;
- Accents of lemons, tomatoes and olives with sun baked colours, tables set with rustic crockery on aged wood chargers;
- White washed walls, carved wood embellishments, terracotta or limestone floors and vintage hand-painted tiles.
- Open doors, shutters and breezy drapery screening the interiors from intense sunlight;
- Old world themed kitchens with large stucco & wood hoods, mixed cabinetry, dark patina'd hardware, central tables instead of islands.
